Discover the article published by Ramdam about Guillaume Herbaut’s residency in Toulouse.
As part of Résidence 1+2 Factory #2022, Guillaume Herbaut initiated an unprecedented dialogue with naturalist and photographer Eugène Trutat, director of the Toulouse natural history museum in the 1890s. Through his photographs, Guillaume Herbaut comes back to the Eugène Trutat’s landscapes, focusing on the Luchonnais.
Combining archives, landscapes and still lifes, he offers an original conversation to redefine the visual and sensitive contours of a new relationship to the world.
In this interview for Ramdam, Guillaume Herbaut discusses his discovery of the Trutat collection, his working method and his photographic project exhibited at the Château d’Eau gallery in Toulouse from April 12, 2023.
Extract from Guillaume Herbaut’s interview: «The photo of Trutat is the story of a life spent documenting landscapes, animals, plants, society. It is a bit difficult to explain, but there is an extraordinary vitality in his images. We feel a strong, almost electric energy. Strangely, it’s not immediately noticeable, but it just pops up.”
