The departmental council of Haute-Garonne joins forces with Résidence 1+2 for an original ephemeral creation.
Marilina Prigent, who took up an artistic residency last autumn, is installing her work on the north facade of Building B at 11 boulevard Griffoul-Dorval at the departmental Archives of Toulouse.
Born of observation of archives, the artist’s wish is to pay homage to little-known workers, through one of them: Jeanne Marie Durand, to whom she gives public visibility by integrating her portrait into contemporary space.
“In 2015, during an artistic residency in Cerbère, I met Georgette Soler, a former transshipment worker, and with her, the story of a group of workers-the Cerbère orange transshipment workers. During this stay, a photograph of a group of women standing at the threshold of a wagon, carrying baskets full of oranges at arm’s length, left a deep impression on me. Eight years later, this image resurfaced. I found it again in the Labouche collection at the Haute-Garonne departmental archives, with the same questions and desires I had at the time. (…) Why are these women posing for the camera? They call out to us, to me. Who are they? These photographs direct the imagination towards real women, individuals who chose, even wished, to leave a trace of themselves.” – Marilina Prigent
