COLINE JOURDAN
SOULEVER LA POUSSIÈRE
Coline Jourdan is a visual artist photographer, she was born in Lyon in 1993. In 2012, she entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art et de Design of Dijon where she obtained the diplôme National d’Arts Plastiques with honours 2015, then the diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastiques with honours in 2017. Her photographic projects introduce a reflection on the presence of toxic substances in our daily environment and their often imperceptible impacts. Thus, she starts various chemical manipulations that distort the surface of the photograph. In 2018, she joined “Nos Années Sauvages”, a collective of young artists from Rouen who share a common concern about environmental changes and whose multidisciplinary projects question a skewed, manipulated and altered vision of animals and nature. The same year, she won the Impression Photographique des Ateliers Vortex Prize that enables her to exhibit the following year at the Musée Nicéphore Niepce in Châlons-sur-Saône. In 2019, she was among the laureates of the “Impulsion” grant from the city of Rouen, which allowed her to develop her project “les noirceurs du fleuve rouge” (The blackness of the red river).
She lives and works in Rouen.
During her residency, Coline Jourdan questions the subversive relationship between Humans and their environment. The photographic developing process, resulting from chemical reactions, is particularly toxic for the environment. However, in this process, anthotyping stands out by the absence of chemicals. As it uses plants, anthotyping makes it possible the creation of a non-toxic but ephemeral image, disappearing at each glance. Through an experimental approach to photography combined with research into life sciences, Coline wishes to question the fragility of the landscape, whose disappearance is at the heart of current events.
